Apple showcased its latest work in the form of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) glasses called Vision Pro along with its futuristic design and specifications. Apple announced the Vision Pro product at the Worldwide Developer Conference in the United States, Tuesday (6/6/2023).

Vision Pro is a pair of glasses that combines AR and VR technology. These glasses also herald a new era of computing from Apple.

“Just as the Mac introduced personal computing and the iPhone introduced mobile computing, Apple Vision Pro introduced spatial computing,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, quoted from Apple’s official website, Tuesday (6/6/2023).

Apart from its futuristic design, Apple Vision Pro offers a new experience for its users in entering the virtual world.

Apple sets the high price of US$3,499 for the Apple Vision Pro due to its technological sophistication. Now, let’s look into the specifications of the Apple Vision Pro through this review:

Apple Vision Pro specifications

Apple Vision Pro consists of three-dimensional laminated glass. The optical surface of this device becomes the lens for several cameras and sensors. This technology will allow users to combine the physical and digital worlds of AR and VR.

The back of the device has a flexible strap for connecting audio, which users can adjust according to their ear. Additionally, there are soft pads that serve as breathing passages. Apple Vision Pro also features a soft seal or protector that users can adjust to fit the texture of their face.

The screen of this device utilizes micro-OLED technology, which is claimed to boast an impressive 23 million pixels. Moreover, it incorporates catadioptric lenses that enhance color sharpness. Additionally, Vision Pro has the ability to personalize audio spatially by adjusting the geometry of the user’s head and ears. Furthermore, Apple has integrated a high-speed camera and LED, enhancing users’ responsiveness and intuition when capturing visible light.

In terms of processing power, Vision Pro utilizes a dual chip called M2 and R1, enabling it to input data from 12 cameras, 5 sensors, and 6 microphones simultaneously. The R1 chip boasts the ability to display images within 12 milliseconds. This Apple-made camera features an external battery with a two-hour usage capacity. If connected to electricity, Vision Pro can be used throughout the entire day.

Apple Vision Pro uses an operating system called visionOS which supports low latency in spatial computing. VisionOS has a three-dimensional interface. Users can control the device by moving their eyes, hands, or voice.

Apple wants to make sure its users can still distinguish between the real and digital worlds. Therefore, there is Eyesight technology to detect the surroundings. For security aspects, Apple implements an Optical ID authentication system to unlock the device.
Vision Pro records the user’s irises with this system and encrypts them through the Secure Enclave. Apple ensures that this Optical ID is secure and cannot be abused.
